10 Pillars of Perspective for the Class of 2024: A Commencement Address

My son Ethan would have graduated from high school this May. He passed when he was seven years old, and these past couple of months, I can’t help but wonder what he’d be doing next, where he’d attend college, and what he’d want to do with his future. Of course, I can imagine it all, but the truth is, it will remain in my imagination.

If he were here, I’d be sharing important wisdom that I’d want him to carry to the place he’d go next. So, since he’s not here to share them with, I thought I’d create a commencement address for the Class of 2024 in honor of him. In this episode, I’m sharing 10 Pillars of Perspective. I’ve always wanted to give a commencement address so here it goes:-)

They are:

  1. Your life has purpose.

  2. How to Discover your purpose.

  3. Cultivate your center: Know yourself and consider faith.

  4. Everyone you meet is struggling with something.

  5. Be curious + be a critical thinker.

  6. The world is desperate for courageous leaders.

  7. The person you choose to spend your life with is one of the most important decisions you will ever make.

  8. Take care of your physical body - it’s truly a temple.

  9. Your disappointments and challenges will be the doorways to your growth and your becoming. Don’t dodge them.

  10. Call your parents.
