The Power of Self-Love and Personal Growth
Have you ever seen someone from afar and immediately knew they were someone you needed to know? That's how I felt about my guest this week, Transformational Coach Elizabeth Marth Tarara. The fun part is that I now know her in real life and get to call her a friend. We shared a deep, spiritual, and profoundly insightful conversation this week on the podcast. Elizabeth focuses her work on women in mid-life, though so much of our discussion applies to any growing, curious woman or man.
One of the most significant barriers to personal growth is a lack of self-love. I struggle with this, too. Often, we hold ourselves back from what we truly desire, convincing ourselves that what we have is "just fine." The key, as we discussed, is to love ourselves into the next version of who we can be.
One quick insight: when I struggle with self-love, I think about how much I love my kids and then remind myself that God loves me that much and more. If we could only mirror God's love for us, we would feel complete and whole. It's just a little reset I do to remind me to love the person I am today.
While self-love is the underpinning of this conversation, we also talked about two of Elizabeth's areas of expertise: Shadow Work and Conscious Uncoupling. Both are topics I'd heard about but needed to learn more about. Quickly, shadow work involves understanding what's underneath how we operate in the world. It involves bringing our repressed or unconscious parts forth so we can understand ourselves more fully. Conscious Uncoupling is a method of separating from a partner or person in our life in an amicable and respectful way. Interestingly, both parties don't have to agree to this approach for it to be effective (at least within the person choosing it).
We also explored the connection between the self, God, and Divine Purpose. We touched on the role of self-discovery in parenting and the value of guiding children to know and trust themselves.
This was such a beautiful conversation, and I hope you find something in it that speaks to you and helps you in your life. You can listen wherever you listen to podcasts. I've also started uploading episodes to YouTube, so you can find them there too.
